Workshop Rationale: The continued growth
in agricultural conservation programs highlights the
importance of questions regarding the impact of
conservation and environmental policy on farmer behavior
and production, and the resulting impacts on the environment.
To fully address these questions, data are needed that
can identify producer behaviors and responses to
changes in policy and production practices, link these
changes to environmental outcomes, and measure or provide
information on how these environmental outcomes affect
human well-being. The
goals of the workshop are
- to identify
specific data needs,
- to identify existing data
and sources,
- to identify data gaps,
- to consider
strategies for filling theses gaps with available
information (recognizing statistical, technical,
and legal consideration), and
- to recommend future
direction for data collection.
