This workshop is designed for first-time building permit applicants. The purpose of the workshop is to examine the various permit application review stations involved with single family construction; and to outline technical requirements and project management strategies for completing the permit application review process as quickly and efficiently as possible.

This workshop provides an opportunity to

  • learn about the residential permit process in lay terms.
  • learn about the various review stations within the King County process for residential permit application review.
  • learn how to organize application materials in a way that takes you through the permit application review phase quickly and efficiently.
Who should attend the Residential Permits for First-time Applicants workshop?

Anyone who is planning to be or currently is involved in residential construction, especially those individuals considering a one-time-only custom home or remodel in unincorporated King County.

  • Health Department review processes
  • DDES review stations and criteria
  • The building inspection process

  • Permit Center Roundtable 2006

On February 22, 2006, the DDES Permit Center hosted a Roundtable discussion with permit runners and builders to discuss permit intake procedures, permit application requirements, and other issues.

The meeting was very interactive and at the request of the attendees, presentation materials from the meeting have been made available online:

    - View Permit Center Roundtable 2006 PowerPoint Slide Show
    - Open or download Roundtable 2006 PowerPoint file (3.5M .ppt**)
    - Presentation in PDF format: Roundtable 2006 pdf (1.2M .pdf**)

Permit center staff are working together to implement procedures to address many of the suggestions put forth at that meeting for improving processes, communication, and overall service. Suggestions involving other Department sections will be shared with appropriate staff. Due to the success of this event, we hope to continue this format with other sections in DDES.
