Welcome Senior Commercial Officer JIM WILSON

Jim Wilson assumes his position as the Senior Commercial Officer at Commercial Service Warsaw in August 2009.   Mr. Wilson most recently served as the Senior Commercial Officer in Ankara, Turkey (1994-1997), Buenos Aires, Argentina (2000-2004), and Madrid, Spain (2004-2008).

In 1998, Mr. Wilson was Director, Office of Energy, Infrastructure and Industrial Machinery at the Commerce Department headquarters in Washington D.C.   That office supported American firms in their international efforts to market capital equipment and to successfully develop major infrastructure projects around the world.  Jim was also an active participant in U.S. Government interagency groups dealing on trade and investment issues related to China, Russia, Turkey and Caspian Region energy issues.

Jim Wilson is a graduate of Swarthmore College with a degree in International Relations and Economics and was born and raised in suburban Philadelphia.  His wife Vicky will accompany him to post.  Jim and Vicky have two children.

U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service Team Up for Global Business in Warsaw

TRochelle Lipsitz and Ishmail Chalabi of AMCS Corp.rade Winds Forum - Europe 2009, a pan-European Business Conference, was held in Warsaw, Poland on April 20-22, 2009.  Assistant Secretary for Trade Promotion and Director General for the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service Rochelle Lipsitz lead the Trade Mission and participated in multiple meetings and press events.  She has also presented Export Achievement Certificates to companies that exceeded in exports to Poland. AMCS Incorporated was one of the awarded companies (see the pictures).

Ambassador Victor Ashe opened the conference at the Marriott Hotel and hosted the closing reception for 450 guests at his residence.   This year's event was the largest in CS Warsaw’s history, involving over 350 participants including 97 U.S. business representatives from 60 companies across 22 states, 200 Polish companies, and 28 SCOs from across Europe. 

Over 245 business meetings were conducted between U.S. and Polish companies during the three days of the Trade Mission.  A cross-section of industries from were represented including energy (mining, oil and gas, electric power generation, renewable), defense and aerospace, telecommunications and information technology, environmental technologies, medical equipment, safety and security equipment, automotive parts and service equipment, logistics and transportation, among others.  Participating companies received marketing and advertising exposure to over 20,000 CNUSA subscribers in a CNUSA Trade Winds special edition magazine.

Ambassador Tours Dell's New Production Facility in Poland

On February 16, after a lunch hosted by the Mayor of Lodz along with the local Governor, Ambassador Ashe and SCO McCaslin visited Dell's new plant just outside of Lodz in central Poland, which was completed last year and is already churning out laptops for the entire European market. It is Dell's most sophisticated and hi-tech manufacturing facility in the world. The plant currently operates three production lines with 1800 employees and expects to add more production lines and employees when it starts producing PC's in addition to laptops. Not only is Dell a leading hi-tech employer in the region, it is also a good corporate citizen, having planted over 400,000 new trees around Lodz as part of its green program to reduce its carbon footprint. It plans to continue to plant new trees for each product it ships.

2012 European Cup Championships - Business Opportunities For U.S. Firms

Euro 2012 logo Poland and Ukraine were recently selected to jointly host the European Cup soccer championships in June 2012.  In order to prepare for  the expected 500,000 visitors during three weeks of play, authorities in Poland and Ukraine must oversee massive building and renovation of their countries’ sports complexes, road, airport and rail infrastructures, and tourist facilities.  In Poland, three new stadiums will be built and three more renovated and expanded.  To accommodate the games as well as Poland’s growing economy, new construction is slated to create 900 kilometers of highway, full modernization of eight airports and upgrades of the country’s entire railway grid.  Funding for construction will come form central and local governments, European Union and private sources. 

U.S. companies will have significant business opportunities stemming from the 2012 build out ranging from architecture/design/engineering and construction services to equipment and support services.  CS Warsaw will counsel U.S. firms on how to best position themselves for business in this sector and will report specific trade leads as they become available.  Please check our "Latest Market Reports" section below and for more information, please contact us directly.
