BREAKING NEWS:

The Cash for Clunkers website has been fully operational overnight and will remain open for dealers to submit sales documentation until 8:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, August 25. After that time, the system will be closed to new submissions. The deadline for completing new deals has already passed, so no dealer or consumer should agree to a CARS transaction today.

Due to high user demand, dealers may experience some delay in accessing the system at peak times.  If this occurs, dealers are requested to try again in 30 minutes.

Health Care

Fundamental Health Care System Reforms Needed

Putting Michigan’s Families First in Reforming Health Care

We do need reform to reduce skyrocketing medical costs and improve access to quality health care for all of Michigan’s families. But we must uphold fundamental principles as we seek reform.  First and foremost is the guarantee of the sacred doctor-patient relationship.  Patients must be able to seek care from the doctor of their choice, and the decisions they make should be made without delay or denial of care by the government.  Americans should also be allowed to keep their current health insurance if they desire to do so. Most Americans are happy with the quality of their coverage and do not want their services reduced.  Insurance companies can not be allowed to discriminate for preexisting illnesses. And, we need to have incentives for employers to provide health insurance for their employees, rather than penalize them with higher taxes and mandates.

August 13 2009 – WSBT CBS 22 - Fred recently secured $150,000 for wind energy and utility worker job training at Lake Michigan College. The funding will enable LMC to expand its nuclear portfolio to include wind energy and utility worker job training. Last summer Fred helped deliver $80,000 in scholarships for LMC’s nuclear program

WOOD-TV8 Interview Image
July 12, 2009 – WOOD-TV 8 - Fred sits down with Rick Albin on To the Point to discuss cap & trade and how it will affect Michigan jobs and our overall economy. The House-passed bill threatens to kill jobs and raise utility bills. Consumers Energy in SW Michigan predicts hefty rate increases in excess of 38 percent for families in order to comply with cap-and-tax. Fred supports an “all of the above” approach to reducing emissions, with an emphasis on renewable sources of energy like wind and solar, as well as nuclear power. We can simultaneously preserve our environment and create jobs.
