GLOBAL AGRICULTURAL TRADE SYSTEM (GATS)
NOW AVAILABLE
 
On August 17, 2009 FAS launched the Global Agricultural Trade System (GATS),
a new robust on-line U.S. Agricultural Trade System that includes many new
features. GATS incorporates U.S. agricultural trade data including official
U.S. Trade data (Bureau of the Census), U.S. Customs District trade Data
and U.S. State trade data into one environment using data visualization,
data analysis and information integration.

IMPORTANT: Please be advised that in November of 2009 GATS will replace the current
FAS USTrade internet system. We recommend that you start using and becoming familiar
with GATS as soon as possible because in mid-November the current system
will no longer be available

2008 13th Month Data Applied
 
Please be advised that 2008 13th month data has been applied to the
FAS U.S. Foreign Agricultural Trade Database
 
Each year the Department of Commerce, U.S. Census Bureau, Foreign Trade
Division releases a 13th month file approximately three(3) months after
the December release of the data. The 13th Month file includes corrections
(ERRATA) made at the request of outside sources and verified with exporters
or importers by the Foreign Trade Division. The 13th month data also includes
late shipments. Late shipments are Shippers Export Declarations or Import
Entry Summary Forms that are received too late to be included within the
normal monthly trade release.

State Department Independent States of the World Short Form naming conventions,

2008 EXPORTS OF RICE TO CANADA AND MEXICO
 
The U.S. Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Division issues commodity-specific corrections in
response to investigations initiated by the community of data-users. For more information

NEW COUNTRY DESIGNATIONS IN THE JANUARY 2009 DATA RELEASE
 
Please be advised of the following country designation changes that became
effective with the January 2009 export and import data releases.
 
United States export and import data is now available for Kosovo
starting in January 2009. Also there is a new Serbia selection that
reflects United States trade with Serbia excluding Kosovo. Historical
data is maintained in the country selection Serbia pre-2009. The new country
designations have been included in the region Other Europe and in all
country groupings where the previous definition of Serbia existed.

NEW EXPORT CODES FOR JANUARY 2009 DATA RELEASE
 
Periodically, commodity codes are replaced, re-defined or re-categorized. These
codes become obsolete and are replaced by new codes. Once a code becomes obsolete
data is no longer reported for it, but, instead is reported in the newly defined code(s).
 
Commodities changed include:
 
TOOTHFISH, LOBSTER and POTATOES
