Q: MyMedicare.gov is a Secure site. What does "Secure" mean?
A: "Secure" means two things.
- Your MyMedicare.gov account may only be accessed by signing in with your own
Sign In ID and personalized password. You and your Authorized Representative should be
the only ones who have knowledge of this information.
- Your secure connection to the MyMedicare.gov application prevents others from
illegally gathering data from you.
Q: Is the MyMedicare.gov site secure?
A: Yes. MyMedicare.gov is secure. Ensuring the security of your personal information online
is a top priority for CMS. When you sign into http://mymedicare.gov, your information is secure,
because once you enter and submit your Sign In ID and password, the information is transmitted
via the internet using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) to an https site, meaning that CMS utilizes
secure transmission mechanisms to encrypt and protect communication that
contains your confidential information. The encryption helps prevent your
Medicare information from being illegitimately intercepted by third parties,
and therefore keeps your Medicare data secure.

A: There are several actions you can take to ensure the privacy of your MyMedicare.gov
experience.

CMS immediately. You may do this by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), or by initiating a
Webchat with CMS by clicking on the Live 'Help' Chat link in the upper right corner of your screen.
- Remember to sign off of MyMedicare.gov when you finish your session. MyMedicare.gov
provides a "Sign Out" link in the upper right-hand corner of your screen, which you
