About Contingency and Response Planning

Famine and food insecurity have far-reaching impacts on people and society. Responding adequately to these problems requires concerted efforts by many different actors.

FEWS NET's primary function is the provision of early warning and food security information to prevent famine and mitigate the effects of food insecurity, while building capacity to undertake this work. The success of FEWS NET's and its partners' efforts to provide early warning depends on timely and appropriate action being taken to prevent or mitigate crises.

Contingency and response planning processes allow early warning information to be translated into action. Therefore, FEWS NET supports contingency and response planning processes, working to ensure high quality food security analysis is used to develop appropriate responses to food insecurity.

For more detailed information about how FEWS NET supports these processes, see the FEWS NET Contingency and Response Planning Framework.
