Title:The Boone Bicycle Initiative: A Community Based Project to Promote Bicycles as an Alternative Mode of Transportation
Appalachian State University students will develop and implement a community-based program to encourage the use of bicycles for commuting. The program will include installing signage and racks, raising community awareness, promoting bike-friendly policy, and implementing a bicycle distribution and maintenance facility. While bicycle distribution centers are not novel, these facilities have not been scientifically studied. The ASU Center will provide new and “recycled” bicycles at little or no cost and maintain logs of bicycle usage patterns.
