Title: Architecture as Pedagogy: Interdisciplinary Design and Creation of a Carbon Neutral Idaho Environmental Learning Center at the University of Idaho McCall Field Campus
University of Idaho students will plan, design, and construct a carbon-neutral environmental learning center. The McCall Outdoor Science School could be the first in the country to achieve carbon neutrality. The U.S. building sector is the leading producer of carbon dioxide in the country as well as the largest consumer of energy. An interdisciplinary team will plan and build the center taking into account use of space, waste treatment, stormwater management, site design, energy efficiency, and sustainable building materials.
