Animal well-being is a complex issue. It involves philosophical, emotional, religious, political, and practical elements. Within USDA's policies and programs, animal well-being considerations involve enhancing the food animal industry by improving farm animal health; overall living, transport, and harvest environments; and coordinated solutions to environmental, production, well-being, and biosecurity concerns. CSREES interacts with Land-Grant University System faculty, federal and industry representatives, and animal well-being organizations through stakeholder input, conferences, and committees to identify critical animal well-being and related issues in need of CSREES research, education, and extension support. CSREES' goal in addressing animal well-being is to provide America with abundant, safe, nutritious, and affordable food animal products, produced in ways that respect animals and the environment.
