About SCR
The NN/LM SCR office is one of eight regional offices under contract to the National Library of Medicine. It is located at the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center (HAM-TMC) Library, Houston, TX, and serves the biomedical information needs of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The Mission of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine is to advance the progress of medicine and improve public health by:
- providing all U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information
- improving the public's access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health.
Minority, underserved, rural, and inner-city health professionals and consumers continue to be a priority for the NN/LM SCR.
To accomplish this mission, the NN/LM SCR office focuses on education and outreach. Numerous outreach subcontracts are awarded to Network member libraries (Resource Libraries) to provide training to health professionals and consumers in their areas. Funding for computer equipment and Internet access is made available to smaller Network members.
