What’s New

NCCOS Wins Commerce Environmental Stewardship Award

Welcome to the National Ocean Service’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) Environmental Management System (EMS) web site. NCCOS declared EMS conformance on December 31, 2008. The EMS has been in existence since 2005.

Following is general information about NCCOS’s EMS:

Executive Order (E.O.) 13423 of January 24, 2007 sets broad goals to strengthen environmental, energy, and transportation management across Federal agencies. It combines multiple previously issued E.O.’s into one and required Federal agencies to implement environmental management systems (EMS) at all appropriate organizational levels. The E.O. requires the use of EMS as the primary management approach for addressing environmental aspects of internal agency operations and activities, including energy and transportation functions.
