Immigration

Although the United States is founded on immigration, it was also founded on the rule of law. Congressman Steve Scalise wants to first seal the United States’ borders with stronger security and enforcement of existing laws.

Scalise is working to cut off taxpayer funded benefits for illegal immigrants such as legislation he has co-sponsored, the American Elections Act of 2008, H.R. 5971 which would make it law that all federal election ballots be printed in English. Scalise has also co-sponsored H.R. 997, which would make English the official language of the United States.

Scalise believes that amnesty is not the answer and that illegal immigrants who have broken the nation’s laws by entering America illegally must suffer a criminal offense, not a free pass.
