Temple/NIST Conference on Extreme Value Theory and Its Applications

Temple/NIST Conference on Extreme Value Theory & Its Applications

May 2 - May 7, 1993

The Temple/NIST Conference was designed to promote the transfer of advances made in the theory of extreme values to applications and to promote an exchange of ideas among researchers involved in a broad spectrum of technical work. The Conference included multiple sessions on the theory of extremes and some of the principal application areas including civil engineering, materials science, and environmental science.

In addition, it brought together 160 researchers from a number of continents and nations, including the leading researchers in a number of the mathematical areas, namely, Simeon Berman, Herbert A. David, Paul Deheuvels, Michael Falk, Janos Galambos, Yvette Gomes, Laurens de Haan, Jurg Husler, Ross Leadbetter, David Mason, James Pickands, Rolf Dieter Reiss, Sidney Resnick, Richard Smith, Howard Taylor, and Jozef Teugels.

The Conference was organized by Janos Galambos, Temple University, and Stefan Leigh, SED. Proceedings were edited by James Lechner and Charles Hagwood of SED, and published in three volumes. Volume 1, published by Kluwer Academic Publishers, contains papers of general interest in extreme value theory and practice. Volume II, contains papers that are most directly relevant to NIST's mission. Volume III, contains papers selected for their important contributions to a number of specialized topics.
