Pennsylvania exports increased 21 percent in 2005 from the previous year, and 28 percent from 2001-05, according to data released Tuesday.

Figures from the Commerce Department's Commercial Service Pittsburgh U.S. Export Assistance Center showed that from 2001-05, Pennsylvania had at least double-digit growth in exports to Canada (84 percent), China (78 percent), Malaysia (169 percent), and Mexico (190 percent).

Machinery, chemicals, computers and transportation products are among the leading exports, according to the USEAC.

"More Pennsylvania companies are looking to increase their bottom line by making new sales abroad," said Pittsburgh USEAC director Lyn Doverspike.
