Interior Museum Hosts Lecture and Related Exhibit on Biodiversity: An Introduction to the Tapestry of Life

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a lecture on May 8 at the Interior Museum, U.S. Geological Survey Imperiled Species Coordinator Rachel Muir will give a timely presentation on the nature of biodiversity and the extinction crisis. Muir is hosted by the Interior Museum in conjunction with the Endangered Species: Flora and Fauna in Peril exhibition on view until May 16th.

Who: Rachel Muir coordinates USGS research regarding species at risk, species protected under the Endangered Species Act, and other federal regulations designed to protect biodiversity and promote conservation of living resources. Muir has nearly 30 years of experience in disciplines such as the effect of contaminants on wildlife and human health; wetland ecology, ecology of freshwater invertebrates, and fish and conservation biology.
What: Lecture on what biodiversity is, why it is endangered, why it is essential to human welfare, and what regulations are enforced by the Endangered Species Act. Free and open to the public.

About the Interior Museum: The Interior Museum interprets the history of the U.S. Department of the Interior and promotes the current work of the bureaus. It is located on the first floor of the Main Interior Building at 1849 C Street, NW between 18th and 19th Streets. The museum is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm and from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on the third Saturday of each month, except for all Federal holidays.
