Secretary Spellings was in New Orleans visiting students and meeting with leaders of higher education before the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Secretary Spellings participates in a discussion with kindergarten students at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School Math & Science in New Orleans.

Secretary Spellings meets with New Orleans area university presidents and representatives.  Secretary Spellings was in New Orleans to announce the award of approximately $22 million in foreign donations given to nine higher education institutions in Louisiana.
