Plano Man Convicted of Computer Sabotage

(Sherman, Texas) POK SOENG KWONG a/k/a FREDDIE KWONG was convicted of sabotaging the computer system of a Plano-based company Friday after a two-week trial before United States District Judge Paul Brown. AN YUAN a/k/a ANDY YUAN was acquitted of the charges pending against him. Kwong's alleged coconspirator, WEI CHEN, remains a fugitive.

At trial, prosecutors introduced evidence establishing that, from March 13, 2001 through December 4, 2001, KWONG conspired to sabotage the computer network belonging to his former-employer, Plano-based American Flood Research (AFR). KWONG and CHEN sabotaged AFR's computers so they stopped functioning and deleted critical information thereby preventing AFR from conducting business.

KWONG and CHEN also programmed AFR computers to erase evidence of their attacks. Damage to AFR exceeds $600,000. KWONG was immediately taken into custody after the jury's verdict.

The FBI investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Terri L. Hagan and Shamoil T. Shipchandler prosecuted the case.
