Abdelati Nachat, 29, of Covington, Ky. was indicted today for charges of copyright infringement.
The Indictment alleges that during 2006, Nachat distributed 10 or more copyrighted works with a total retail value of more than $2,500 in Kenton County, Ky. The Indictment also alleges that he used around 201 counterfeit labels, which accompanied the copies of the copyrighted motion pictures.
If convicted, he faces a up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for five years.
The investigation preceding the Indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Joint Terrorism Task Force. The Indictment was presented to the grand jury by Assistant United States Attorney Edwin J. Walbourn, III.
Amul R. Thapar, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Tracey A. Reinhold, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, jointly made the announcement after a federal grand jury in Covington, returned the Indictment.
Nachat’s appearance before the United States District Court has not yet been set by the court in Covington, Ky.
