2009 SAA Election Results

Helen Tibbo has been elected SAA’s vice president and will begin her one-year term this August following the Joint Annual Meeting in Austin, and then will become SAA’s 66th president in August 2010. Aimee Felker was elected to a three-year term as treasurer. The Council will welcome Scott Cline, Tom Frusciano, and Deborra Richardson for three-year terms, and Brenda Lawson for a two-year term. In addition, Amy Cooper Cary (chair), Terry Baxter, and Daniel Santamaria were elected to the 2010 Nominating Committee. More than 1,000 members exercised their right to vote. SAA Submits Comments on Alternative Models for Presidential Libraries

Responding to a Request for Information from the National Archives and Records Administration, SAA provided comments on "cost effective ways of modifying the present system for archiving and providing public access to Presidential records." View the letter here. SAA President Frank Boles solicited SAA member comments via a request in the March 31 issue of In the Loop.

Enforcing Ethics

March 20, 2009 – In the last few months there has been a discussion, primarily on the Archives and Archivists Listserv, about enforcing SAA’s Code of Ethics in light of a researcher’s allegations about the National Archives and Records Administration. New C&U Thesaurus Online

SAA’s latest ePublication, Thesaurus for Use in College and University Archives, compiled and edited by Kate Bowers, is a set of 1,300 terms for use by any college or university archives in the U.S. for describing its holdings.

The Library of Congress and the Foundation Center have published “Foundation Grants for Preservation in Libraries, Archives, and Museums.” This guide lists 1,725 grants of $5,000 or more awarded by 474 foundations from 2003 through 2007. The publication includes hotlinks to free online grant writing tutorials, a statistical analysis of grant funding, state-by-state descriptions of projects funded in preservation, indexes of recipients, and a list of all foundations that have donated to preservation.
