Solar and Renewable Energy Trade Mission to Chile

September 5-11, 2009

Presented by the Silicon Valley Center for International Trade Development, the cornerstone event will be the 4th International Conference on Renewable Energy Investment on September 7 & 8, 2009. The 4th International Conference on Renewable Energy Investment and CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) is the No.1 renewable energy and CDM event in Chile, organized by the Chilean Economic Development Agency (CORFO).  The event provides the opportunity for networking by bringing together national key Solar Industry Leaders, private investors, carbon market intermediaries, project developers, service suppliers, banks, public agents and experts in renewable energy and CDM sectors.

More than 1500 participants are expected at this conference, as well as more than 250 companies from 25 countries.  There will be more than 75 projects showcased and 1600 individual business meetings.

This delegation is the foundation for developing solid renewable energy business leads in one of the most thriving economies in Latin America.

Business Opportunities:

Chile is ranked the No.1 Latin American country in which to do business and the 6th largest supplier of CDM projects worldwide.  Current investments in the energy sector amount to US $2.8 billion in projects.  Chile's Renewable Energy sector is expected to expand significantly over the coming years.  The Renewable Energy law passed in 2008 establishes that at least 5% of all electricity must come from renewable energy sources by 2010.  This percentage must increase by 0.5% per year to reach an overall goal of 10% in 2024.  This new framework and higher energy prices has led Chile to develop new incentives to promote investment in the sector.
