Welcome
When GPO opened for business in 1861, printers set type by hand under candlelight. Printing presses were driven by steam and deliveries each morning to the U.S. Capitol were by horse-drawn cart. Since then,
GPO has adapted to new technologies and new ways of meeting the information product needs of Congress, federal agencies and the American people. Our mission of Keeping America Informed has been achieved by serving as the country's printer in producing and distributing the official documents of our democracy.
GPO disseminates the daily Congressional Record, the Federal Register, Budget of the U.S. Government and produces the nation's passports. Also, GPO offers print and digital services to all Federal customers and is building the digital tools of the future that will enable our government to work more efficiently.
I invite you to learn more, through this website, about how GPO is making history by transforming the largest information processing, printing and distribution facility in the world into a digital factory.
Sincerely,
Robert C. Tapella
Public Printer of the United States
