Overview

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and The Centro de Apoyo, Recursos Y Oportunidades (CLARO) recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces. OSHA and the CLARO formed an Alliance to provide CLARO members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help protect them employees’ health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing occupational injury and illness to Hispanic workers.

Activities

OSHA and CLARO have worked together to achieve the following training and education goals:
  • Deliver training and education programs on employees’ occupational safety and health rights and responsibilities; and safety and health issues faced by Hispanic employees.

  • Deliver or arrange for the delivery of informational courses about hazards in industries, such as meat processing, where those clients whom CLARO serves are commonly employed.
OSHA and CLARO have worked together to achieve the following outreach and communication goals:
  • Developed and disseminated information, through print and electronic media, including electronic assistance tools and links from OSHA's site, including information provided in English and Spanish languages.
    • CLARO has continued to maintained consistent phone contact with the KCAO Area Director as resource for answering questions from their constituents.
  • The quarterly meetings were held with one on-site meeting that included OSHA and CLARO, who had invited the Business Agent for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union to attend. Discussions were held with the CLARO representative, OSHA and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Business Agent regarding issues facing Hispanic workers and several packets of information were distributed to all parties in attendance.
2. Alliance Action Plans

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and The Centro de Apoyo, Recursos Y Oportunidades (CLARO) are committed to continuing to raise awareness of workplace safety and health, with an emphasis on the hispanic employers/employees.

There is currently work in progress regarding collaboration with two additional organizations in an effort to reach out to the Hispanic workforce. CLARO continues to promote this collaboration with OSHA, in particular while attending meetings and forums.

Both OSHA and CLARO are working together to foster new innovative solutions in order to reach as many workplaces as possible and continue to search for opportunities to increase in the participation of groups in the coming year.
