ALLIANCE ANNUAL REPORT For U.S. Small Business Administration, El Paso, TX 12/18/2006
I. Alliance Background Date Signed – 12/23/2005 Alliance Overview To promote safe and healthful working conditions for workers in El Paso, Texas area and also to help people get into, stay in, expand and improve their small business in the el Paso, Texas area. Provide employers with information, guidance and access to training resources that will help them provide to their employees knowledge of safety and health hazards of construction and general industry with a focus on the four major hazards: falls, electrical, struck by and caught in between. The parties also hope to increase awareness among the small business community of SBA opportunities, such as training. Events and Products Training and Education Events – OSHA Safety & Health General Industry and Construction training courses: 1. January 30-February 3, 2006 – OSHA 501 Train the Trainer Safety & Health General Industry; 2. April 17-April 21, 2006 – OSHA 500 Train the Trainer Safety & Health Construction Industry; 3. March 6-March 9, 2006 – OSHA 510 30 Hour Safety and Health Standards Construction Industry   Products OSHA Safety & Health General Industry and Construction training courses. Outreach and Communication Events 1. January 30-February 3, 2006 – OSHA 501 Train the Trainer Safety & Health General Industry; 2. April 17-April 21, 2006 – OSHA 500 Train the Trainer Safety & Health Construction Industry; 3. March 6-March 9, 2006 – OSHA 510 30 Hour Safety and Health Standards Construction Industry   Products No products were developed under the alliance. SBA has been promoting these training sessions to meet the construction industry goals of educating the Hispanic Community in construction and general industry on Safety and Health issues. During these training sessions, SBA has been able to promote it’s programs and services. No information from DOL/OSHA on promoting SBA’s programs and services. Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health Events 1. January 30-February 3, 2006 – OSHA 501 Train the Trainer Safety & Health General Industry; 2. April 17-April 21, 2006 – OSHA 500 Train the Trainer Safety & Health Construction Industry; 3. March 6-March 9, 2006 – OSHA 510 30 Hour Safety and Health Standards Construction Industry   Products No products were developed under the alliance. SBA has been promoting these training sessions to meet the construction industry goals of educating the Hispanic Community in construction and general industry on Safety and Health issues. During these training sessions, SBA has been able to promote it’s programs and services. No information from DOL/OSHA on promoting SBA’s programs and services. III. Results In order to meet a requirement of training the Hispanic Community on safety and health in construction and general industry and at the request of the local Veteran’s Administration, SBA contacted the local DOL/OSHA in order to form the alliance to promote each other’s programs and services. SBA responded by setting up training sessions for the Hispanic Initiative and coordinating with Texas Education Extension Service (TEEX) to promote the training sessions. As a result, several training sessions were held in order to promote “Train the Trainer” courses as well as the 30 hour and 10 hour Safety and Health classes for construction workers. Upcoming Milestones The SBA plans on holding more training sessions in coordination with TEEX (who is under a contract with DOL to provide training) on the Safety and Health training. During matchmaking events, tradeshows, etc., SBA promotes all programs that SBA is involved in, to include the Strategic Alliance memorandum.
