- Alliance Background

Alliance Overview.
This alliance was intended to address those Wisconsin workplaces utilizing
ammonia as a refrigerant.
Implementation Team Members.

Implementation team members exchanged some telephone calls and emails during
February 2008.
- Activities and Products
Evaluation Period.
This report covers the period of August 24, 2007 to September 4, 2008.
Alliance Activity.
The initial purpose of the alliance was for OSHA to support BEOH’s Ammonia
Awareness Day, which occurred in April 25, 2007. It was felt that the event
would have more impact if OSHA was listed as a sponsor. Ammonia Awareness Day
consisted of informational emails from the BEOH to employers in Wisconsin who
are known users of anhydrous ammonia. The emails directed recipients to an
informational web site, set up just for Ammonia Awareness Day. Recipients were
also mailed an explanatory Ammonia Awareness Day cover letter, hard copies of an
anhydrous ammonia brochure, a hard copy of a six-question evaluation
questionnaire, and a postage-paid return envelope. The purpose of the
questionnaire was to have recipients rate the effectiveness of the Ammonia
Awareness Day informational campaign.
Since the Ammonia Awareness Day event, there has not been a lot of activity
between OSHA and BEOH. In February of 2008 BEOH asked OSHA if it was interested
in partaking of an anhydrous ammonia awareness training program developed via
the Susan Harwood grants. The OSHA area directors reviewed the training
materials and decided that it did not meet the needs of OSHA’s Wisconsin
employers and decided not to pursue the training event. Since that time there
has been no communication between BEOH and OSHA about the alliance.
It is the recommendation of the area office’s that the alliance not be renewed.
Alliance Products.
None during the reporting period.

It is the recommendation of the Madison OSHA team that this alliance not be
renewed.
