Overview

OSHA, PPF - Local 72, MCAG and Georgia Tech hereby form an Alliance to provide PPF - Local 72 and MCAG members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly in addressing mechanical contractor safety and health issues in the construction industry.

II. Implementation Team Memberships and Contributors

The Implementation Team included representatives from OSHA and MCAG. These meetings were conducted as scheduled on 4/26 -27/07, and 7/20/07.

  • The Corporate Safety Director for McKenney's, Ralph Blessing, supported the Georgia Youth Alliance by participating in the OSHA 10-hour safety and health training courses conducted for students pursuing careers in the construction industry: The MGAC supported the following OSHA 10-hour safety and health training courses:

Outreach and Communication

Events
  • On January 1, 2007, MCAG participated in the Georgia Tech Building Construction Program Career Fair for undergraduate and graduate students interest in internships, co-ops and full-time employment in the construction industry.
     
  • On January 19, 2007 and July 27, 2007 MCAG participated in the Georgia Labor Management Meeting held at the Department of Labor, Safety Engineers Office in Atlanta, Georgia.
     
  • On April 15, 2007, the MCAG & LU 72 participated in and co-sponsored the Latino Construction Worker Day event in Downtown Duluth, Georgia. The event was coordinated by a diverse group of organizations, including government agencies, academic institutions and companies. The primary organizer was El Constructor Latino magazine with cooperation from the Mexican Consulate in Atlanta, OSHA and the Georgia Institute of Technology. The fair included training on a wide range of safety and health topics (Scaffold, Excavation, Electrical and Fall Protection Safety, as well as Intro to OSHA).
     
  • MCAG & LU 72 participated and sponsored the April 26 – 27, 2007, Construction CareerExpo at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. This event includes exhibitors, demonstrations and hands-on activities. The Expo is also conducted in conjunction with the SkillsUSA competitions.
     
  • On August 14 – 15, 2007, MCAG participated in the Middle Georgia Safety Conference.
     
  • On October 15 – 19, 2007 MCAG and Mechanical Trades Institute participated in Careers in Construction Week at Heard County High School.

Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health FY 2007

Events
  • On May 21-22, 2007, the MCAG attended the MCAA Safety Directors Conference at the Omni Austin Hotel in Downtown Austin, TX. The conference focused on urgent mechanical industry safety and health issues, as well as topics covering jobsites, pertinent regulations, and legislative proposals. The event also provides an outlet for mechanical industry safety and health professionals to network and address cutting edge safety and health concerns.
     
  • MCAA publication in 2007 – Hexavalent Chromium Safety Training Kit, Model Hexavalent Chromium Compliance Program, Safety Manual for the Mechanical Construction Trades – Sixth Edition, Model NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Program for Service, Electrical Safety Guidelines for Mechanical Service (Base on NFPA 70E – 2004) Safety Training Kit, OSHA Inspections: Be Prepared for the Process, MCAA Toolbox Safety Talks – Volume IV and MSCA Safety Manual for the Mechanical Service Trades.

V. Upcoming Milestones in FY 2008

This Alliance was concluded on December 6, 2007. However, OSHA will continue to work cooperatively with the MCAG and support the following events and activities, as resources permit
