Overview
OSHA, PPF - Local 72, MCAG and Georgia Tech hereby form an Alliance to provide PPF - Local 72 and
MCAG members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help
them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in addressing mechanical contractor safety
and health issues in the construction industry.
II. Implementation Team and Contributors:
The Implementation Team included representatives from OSHA and MCAG. These meetings were conducted
as scheduled on (pre-meetings 6/21/05 and 8/30/05) 12/6/05, 12/08/05, 2/21/06, 6/13/06, 8/23/06 and
11/20/06

III. Events and Products
Training and Education
Events
- April 2006 safety trainees from three states participated in an OSHA construction safety update
conducted by the Mechanical Trades Institute (MTI). The three-day seminar reviewed procedures for
over 20 construction-related activities including welding, respiratory protection and disaster
response.
- Several participants in the April 2006 safety seminar were re-certified to conduct the OSHA 10 and
30 hour training courses.
- MCAG & LU 72 have committed to having all members of the LU72 to obtain the OSHA 10 hour training
course certification. There are presently 2,021 certified LU 72 members, with just 550 members
remaining to be certified.
- MCAG & LU 72 along with Corporate Safety Director for McKenney's Ralph Blessing are encouraging
contractors to participate in a welding fumes study (Manganese – this research would monitor 100
welders).

Outreach and Communication
Events
- April 27 – 28, 2006 the MCAG participated in the Construction CareerExpo at the Gwinnett County
Fairgrounds. This event includes exhibitors, demonstrations and hands-on activities. The Expo is
also conducted in conjunction with the Skills USA competitions.
- The OSHA, PPF - Local 72, MCAG and Georgia Tech Alliance was highlighted in the MCAG’s
E-Newsletter, "Take Five," in April 2006.
- MCAG & LU 72 contractors and members are encouraged to utilize the Georgia Tech Onsite
Consultation Program.
Products
Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
Events
- MCAG participated at the April 21-22, 2006 MCAA Safety Directors Conference to be held at the
Inter Continental Hotel Chicago, IL. Conference focus on urgent mechanical industry safety and
health issues and topics covering jobsites, pertinent regulations, and legislative proposals. Also
serves as a mechanism for maintaining a network of mechanical industry safety and health
professionals in their ongoing efforts to address critical industry safety and health issues and
topics.
- In April 2006, the safety forum was conducted by the joint committee composed of MCAG members, as
well as representative of the United Associated and OSHA.

V. Upcoming Milestones in FY 2007:
- MCAG & LU 72 will participate and sponsor the April 26 – 27, 2007, Construction CareerExpo at the
Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. This event includes exhibitors, demonstrations and hands-on activities.
The Expo is also conducted in conjunction with the Skills USA competitions.
- MCAG & LU 72 will participate and sponsor the April 29, 2007 Latino Construction Workers Day in
Downtown Duluth, Georgia.
- MCAG will participate at the May 21-22, 2007, MCAA Safety Directors Conference at the Omni Austin
Hotel Downtown in Austin, TX. The conference will focus on urgent mechanical industry safety and
health issues, as well as topics covering jobsites, pertinent regulations, and legislative
proposals. The event also provides an outlet for mechanical industry safety and health professionals
to network and address cutting edge safety and health concerns.
- MCAG has quarterly safety meetings.
