Overview

OSHA, GDOL and Georgia Tech formed an Alliance to provide small business employers in Georgia with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to prevalent hazards in the construction and general industries, by addressing such topics as work zone safety, electrical safety, power tool safety, personal protective equipment safety, trenching/ excavation safety, scaffolding safety, as well as fall protection and roofing. Emphasis will also be placed on effectively communicating these issues to hard-to-reach groups, such as non-English speaking workers.

Representatives from OSHA, GDOL and Georgia Tech conducted all required meeting - 1/13/06, DOL Small Business Open House Meetings – 3/28/06, 5/16/06, 7/11/06, 10/24/06

III. Events and Products

Training and Education
  • February 13, 2006, the decision was made to post-pone the Construction Safety Fair in 2006. As an alternative Georgia Tech conducted several free seminars in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia, which were promoted by the Alliance participants.

Events
  • The group conducted a Small Business Workshop at the Georgia Tech Conference Center in Atlanta, GA. The event included representatives from OFCCP, EBSA, OLMS Office of Apprenticeship, WH, BAT, OSHA, Georgia Tech Onsite Consultation Service, the Georgia Department of Worker’s Compensation, the Georgia Department of Unemployment Insurance, and the Georgia Department of Labor.

  • The group conducted a Small Business Compliance Assistance Open House on November 8, 2006, at the Georgia Department of Labor, Safety Engineering Division Office Building. Participants once again included representatives from OFCCP, EBSA, OLMS Office of Apprenticeship, WH, BAT, OSHA, Georgia Tech Onsite Consultation Service, the Georgia Department of Worker’s Compensation, the Georgia Department of Unemployment Insurance, and the Georgia Department of Labor.
     
  • Representatives of OSHA and Georgia Tech participated in the October 10 -12, 2006, Georgia Safety, Health and Environmental Conference, which is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Labor.
     
  • The group promoted Project Safe Georgia, which is administered by the Georgia Department of Labor, Safety Engineering as a public service to citizens and members of the state’s business community.
