Policy Studies

OGC’s Policy Studies unit serves as an R&D arm for the Commission and contributes to its efforts to advance the development of the law. It organizes hearings and public workshops to examine emerging issues in the economy and important competition-related topics. It compiles reports based on a hearing record and an examination of the relevant scholarly literature. It conducts fact-based studies of specific competitive conditions, using the Commission’s authority to collect information by requiring the filing of special reports. It helps with the development of guidelines, works to shape many of the Commission’s amicus positions, and contributes to policy discussions at all stages of the Commission’s enforcement efforts.

In addition to OGC’s Policy Studies unit, several offices throughout the Commission, including the Office of Policy Planning and the Bureau of Competition’s Office of Policy and Coordination also provide policy advice.
