| U.S. to Support Ukraine's NATO Ambitions |
VILNIUS, Lithuania, Oct. 23, 2005 – Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld assured Ukraine's defense minister today the United States will continue its efforts to help the former Soviet state make the reforms necessary for it to qualify for NATO membership.
"Progress has been made," Rumsfeld told reporters of Ukraine's efforts following a bilateral meeting here with Ukraine Defense Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko. "We encourage it and are available to be of assistance" to support Ukraine. Story |

| Visit Reaffirms Peacekeeping in Mongolia |
| ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia, Oct. 22, 2005 – Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld applauded Mongolia's efforts to enhance its peacekeeping capabilities here today, reaffirming to Mongolian Defense Minister Tserenkhuu Sharavdorj a commitment that the United States "is anxious and willing and ready" to assist. Rumsfeld, the first U.S. defense secretary to visit Mongolia, delivered that message while standing alongside Sharavdorj in front of a large statue of Genghis Khan, the famous 13th century Mongolian warrior.
