Development Grants Program
The Development Grants Program (DGP) was established by Section 674 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008 (H.R. 2764). The DGP is intended to expand development relationships between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and U.S. private voluntary organizations (PVOs) and indigenous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have had limited experience working directly with USAID.
An Annual Program Statement (APS) requesting concept papers from indigenous NGOs and U.S. PVOs was posted on Friday, August 29, 2008 on www.grants.gov. Competitive awards will support Missions' priority sectors in Environment, Dairy, Microenterprise, Women's Empowerment, Water and Democracy and Governance. USAID seeks applications that are based on the comparative advantage NGOs and U.S. PVOs have in these technical and geographic areas that would allow them to make effective contributions to the priority development sectors outlined in the APS.

Launch of the Development Grants Program
On September 8th, the Office of Development Partners held a public launch event for the new Development Grants Program (DGP) at the Ronal Reagan Building in Washington, DC. The event included a discussion of the DGP Annual Program Statement by USAID panelists, including eligibility, the application and evaluation process as well as the sectors and geographic regions for which awards will be supported. It also included an opportunity for audience Questions and Answers. More than 130 organizations attended.
