"new" iconSAMAB's annual fall conference will be held November 17-19, 2009 in Asheville, North Carolina at Crowne Plaza Hotel. The theme for this year’s conference is “Climate Change in the Southern Appalachians,” and the keynote speaker will be Sam Pearsall (who recently joined the Environmental Defense Fund as the Southeast Regional Director for Land, Water and Wildlife; he was previously Director of Science for The Nature Conservancy’s North Carolina chapter). The title of Sam’s talk will be:“Climate Disruption and the Southern Appalachians: Is Adaptation Possible?” Mark your calendars and plan to join us!!!

SAMAB, through a grant from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has developed a curriculum for Middle School students--Exotic Invasive Plants of Southern Appalachia: An Activity Guide.

volunteers at work SAMAB is training volunteers from around the southern Appalachian area to monitor ecological health in their community. SAVEM volunteers are involved in hands-on invasive exotic plant and water quality surveys. Read more about the SAVEM program.

New SAMAB Watershed Group Finder--The SAMAB Watershed Initiative group has developed a site where you can click on any basin in the SAMAB area and get information on the watershed organizations within the basin. Basins are delineated by 8-digit hydrologic unit codes. There also is a link from each basin to EPA's "Surf your Watershed."
