The American Citizen Services Unit of the Consular Section is located at No. 5 Tawfik Diab Street. This section deals with matters concerning Americans traveling or residing abroad. These matters range from providing federal tax forms to replacing U.S. passports to registering the birth abroad of American citizens. While Consular Officers are required and prepared to assist their fellow citizens in a number of ways, there are some things they cannot do. A Consular Officer can neither perform marriages nor obtain the release of Americans from prison. However, in those circumstances, a Consular Officer can still provide some assistance.

The American Citizen Services Unit assists people with passport renewal, registration of Americans residing in or visiting Egypt, birth reports for children of American citizens born in Egypt, voter registration, income tax forms, notarial services and emergency services to American citizens. As a non-claiming Federal Benefit Post, the consular section carries out federal agencies' requests for services; distributes federal benefits checks; and hands out available forms.
