Bismarck, N.D. - Disaster assistance for North Dakotans affected by the floods has reached $1.4 million dollars. Since the April 10th declaration for the Individual Assistance program, 965 residents have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for assistance, and a steady stream of grant and loan checks go out daily.

Eligible applicants affected by the recent floods beginning March 13 may receive grants to help pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs or other serious disaster-related expenses, such as medical, dental, funeral or burial expenses not covered by insurance or other sources. To date, 435 home inspections have been completed throughout the state. The deadline for Individual Assistance registrations in North Dakota is June 9, 2009.

Also, 131 North Dakotans have visited a Disaster Recovery Center in their community to receive recovery program information and to get help filling out low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
