Serving IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, WI
FEMA Region V serves the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin, as well as the 34 federally recognized tribes located in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Our regional office provides advice, training and funding to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain and improve capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from and mitigate all hazards. When a disaster is beyond the capabilities of a state or tribal government, that authority may request a major disaster declaration by the President through the regional office. In coordination with the state and tribe, Region V opens a joint field office and coordinates the federal response and recovery actions.
Region V employs about130 full-time employees and can draw on a cadre of more than 500 disaster assistance employees to provide support on major disasters.
