Consumer Updates: Cosmetics
Consumer Updates are timely articles that cover product approvals, safety warnings, and other health information for you and your family. You can sign up to receive e-mail alerts about new articles immediately after they are posted on FDA's Web site, or on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. You can also sign up for an RSS feed. Some of these articles are available in Spanish.
Consumer Updates related to cosmetics are featured on this page. Cosmetics such as makeup, hair dyes, and shampoos must be safe for their intended use and properly labeled. FDA field investigators inspect cosmetic companies, examine imports, and collect samples for analysis. Cosmetics are regulated by FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
