What FEMA is Doing About Earthquakes

National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Logo Congress established the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) in 1977 as a long-term, nationwide program to reduce the risks to life and property in the United States resulting from earthquakes.

The NEHRP is managed as a collaborative effort among FEMA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Science Foundation, and the United States Geological Survey.

FEMA supports state and local programs that protect citizens from the earthquake hazard through the NEHRP. Visit State Resources for information on the role of state and regional organizations and to learn about programs affecting your community.
