The National Weather Service Office in St. Louis has the responsibility of maintaining a 24 hour weather watch over an area that stretches from central Missouri to near the Iowa border, east into west central Illinois, and into portions of southeast Missouri.  The area includes 29 counties in Missouri and 17 in Illinois.
