Final Report of The National Map Partnership ProjectThis report (MS Word, 2.01MB) presents the findings and recommendations of a partnership effort by the National Association of Counties, the National States Geographic Information Council, and the U.S. Geological Survey to enhance development of The National Map and to improve collaboration among all levels of government.. During 2004-2005, the partnership Core Team and four topical workgroups collaborated to better understand the relevance of The National Map to state and local government partners; to develop a "Best Practices" model to guide collaborative implementation of The National Map;to examine opportunities and challenges to effective implementation on a state-by-state basis; and to identify collaboration and communication mechanisms that allow stakeholder input to be integrated into technical decision-making and program planning for The National Map.ASPRS Panel Report to USGS on Digital OrthoimageryThis report (11/23/2005; 1.3MB PDF) presents the findings of a panel formed by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, under contract from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), to examine the future of USGS digital orthoimagery activities, and, where applicable, the National Digital Orthophoto Program (NDOP). This panel was given the charter to examine the status and forecast the future of orthoimage technology, to describe how such technology will affect current and future orthoimage programs, and to make recommendations based on these predictions.Featured JournalThe special October 2003 issue of Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing, published by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, is devoted to The National Map. Articles from the USGS, other Federal agencies, State agencies, private industry, and other national mapping organizations emphasize partnerships for data sharing and maintenance and the importance of nationally consistent, current, and readily available geographic information.
