A cold neutron beam position has deliberately been left uninstrumented,
except for the provision of an optical bench and positioning devices, in order
to allow for development of new neutron beam methods and devices, especially
in the areas of neutron optics and neutron-based chemical analysis methods.
The station is located at a beam port which looks at the cold source, but
terminates in the confinement building rather than in the guide hall.
A particulary interesting and sucessful project which has been carried out
at this station in recent years has to do with
NEUTRON FOCUSING using capillary optics to produce a neutron lens.
