Social Media at the Department of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security is using "Web 2.0," social media technologies and Web sites to provide you with information in more places and more ways.

Below is the list of tools and sites that the Department and our components use to provide up-to-date information, straight from the source. If a site is not on this list, it is not presently being used by the Department of Homeland Security. If you think something is missing, or if you have any questions, contact us.

Web 2.0 and Communications on Department Sites

A good clue to a government site is a url that ends with dot-gov, like DHS.gov. Dot-gov sites are required to meet government Web standards to protect you and your privacy. For more information on federal Web standards, see webcontent.gov.

Web 2.0 and Communications on Non-Government Sites

The Department uses non-government sites to make information and services more widely available. Sometimes we are directly engaging with you on these sites, sometimes we use these services because we want to be where you already are. It’s important to remember that these are commercial sites and are not required to follow government standards. It’s always a good idea to be familiar with the privacy policies and rules of these sites. You can usually find links to policies at the bottom of the page (footer) or sometimes at the top (header).
