American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

$500 million in ARRA funding will bolster and expand the health professions workforce:

  • $200 million targets health professions training programs to strengthen the workforce in key areas
  • $300 million supports scholarship and loan repayment programs for health professions students, including the National Health Service Loan Repayment Program

For the past several years, health professions training programs have been significantly underfunded and shortages have continued to grow. Recognizing the need to address this issue, President Obama included funding that will help to train health professionals.
