Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton began a seven-nation trip to Africa at the 8th U.S.–Sub-Saharan Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum in Nairobi, Kenya. The Secretary continued her travel with stops in South Africa, Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Liberia, and Cape Verde.

The U.S. Extended Continental Shelf Task Force, chaired by the Department of State, will conduct a joint 41-day mission with the Government of Canada this summer to collect scientific data about the continental shelf and ocean basins in the Arctic. The mission, scheduled from August 7 to September 16, will continue the U.S.-Canada collaboration begun last summer.
