Health, Safety, Work-Life Support Activity (HSWL SUPACT)

This command, with its detachments, comprises the virtual USCG “Military Treatment Facility” (MTF) in the TRICARE system. The command core is located in Norfolk, adjacent to the Coast Guard (CG) Operations Command (OPCOM), with detached elements adjacent to CG Force Readiness Command (FORCECOM). This command is responsible for ensuring/coordinating access to and/or delivery of HSWL services for CG.

The medical/dental/work-life practice portion of this concept is one of a multi-location, group practice (Field Office), dedicated to keeping USCG forces healthy and on the job. All CONUS practice locations (clinics) are part of a Field Office practice and will be operated/designated as troop medical clinics, mission funded and operated to care for active duty Coast Guard members. Practice locations in the “overseas” locations of Alaska and Puerto Rico may be operated as family practice sites, based upon command determination of mission and need. A dedicated, experienced management team, overseeing the practices of multiple providers offers economies of scale, standardization of clinical and business practices, returns administrative time that was previously required at all locations to now to be concentrated at the regional level, and returns time for direct health services to those locations where physicians, dentists and pharmacists were previously charged with administrative duties.

Mission –PREVENT, PROTECT, PROVIDE
