Jackie's Committees

Committee on Financial Services

The Committee on Financial Services
is chaired by Rep. Barney Frank (MA).  I was appointed to this committee in June, 2008 and serve on the following subcommittees:

  • Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises
  • Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit
  • Oversight and Investigations

The Committee oversees all components of the nation's housing and financial services sectors, including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities.  The Committee reviews the laws and programs relating to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and international development and finance agencies such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.  Finally, the Committee also ensures enforcement of housing and consumer protection laws, such as the United States Housing Act, the Truth in Lending Act, the Housing and Community Development Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and the Community Reinvestment Act.

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is chaired by Rep. Edolphus Towns (NY).  I was appointed to this committee in July, 2008 and serve on the Government Management, Organization, and Procurement subcommittee.  The Committee is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.  It has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program and any matter with federal policy implications.

Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming

The Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming is chaired by Rep. Edward Markey (MA).  I was appointed to the Select Committee in January, 2009.  The select committee has no legislative jurisdiction or authority to take legislative action.  Its sole authority is to investigate, study, make findings, and develop recommendations on policies, strategies, technologies and other innovations intended to reduce the dependence of the United States on foreign sources of energy and achieve substantial and permanent reductions in activities that contribute to climate change and global warming.
