Service Academies

Thank you for your interest in the United States Service Academies. Being nominated by a Member of Congress is the most common path toward service in the U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Merchant Marine Academy, however, nominations may also be obtained from a U.S. Senator or the President.

The qualifications required for admittance to any of the academies are:

  • Excellent academic achievement
  • Ability to pass a physical aptitude test
  • Strong leadership potential
  • United States citizen
  • High school graduate between the ages of 17 and 23
  • Unmarried with no dependents
  • High moral character.

Any academy appointment requires a nine year service obligation. The first four years will be spent in the academy, followed by five years of active duty.

If you are interested in being considered for a service academy nomination for the 2009 academic year, you must submit a Service Academy Nomination Application to my district office. The deadline is October 23, 2009.

Please contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-3531
to receive an application or further assistance.
