"William Penn and the Indians" - William Penn is shown at center with the Delaware Indians at the time of the Treaty of Shackamaxon. This treaty formalized the purchase of land in Pennsylvania and cemented an amicable relationship between the Quakers and the Indians for almost a hundred years. COMMITTEE EMBARKS UPON AMBITIOUS AGENDA FOR REMAINDER OF 2009

Washington, DC (September 9, 2009):  As the U.S. House of Representatives re-convenes following the summer district work period, Committee Chairman Robert A. Brady outlined several of the initiatives that the Committee plans to undertake for the remainder of 2009.

“The Committee on House Administration continues to exercise oversight in key operational areas,” said Brady.  “We continue to consider new and innovative ways to make the Committee more responsive to the needs of Members and to improve the manner in which it serves the American public,” Brady added.

The Committee continues to work with the Sergeant at Arms and U.S. Capitol Police to ensure that the Capitol Complex remains safe for Members, visitors and staff, while also safeguarding the accessibility of one of the most frequently visited sites in the Nation.  The Committee will work closely with the Capitol Visitor Center to ensure that visitors have a memorable and positive experience during their visit to the “the People’s House.”

Additionally, as the Committee responsible for federal election reform through the Subcommittee on Elections, we will be holding hearings over the next several months to consider measures that expand electoral access to the American voting population.  Measures considered will include voter registration, military and overseas voting and other enhancements to the American voting system.

“I look forward to working with Members from both sides of the aisle as we advance these important initiatives,” said Chairman Brady.  “
