This is an exciting opportunity for a leading clinical or non-clinical researcher at Reader/Senior Lecturer level to join the new MRC-HPA Centre for Environment and Health as Senior Scientist to the Centre. The post will be based at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Imperial College London. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Centre Director, Professor Paul Elliott, to develop the scientific aspects of the research programme, with particular responsibility for leading on research projects that utilise the Small Area Health Statistics (SAHSU) databases.

Medical candidates will have an MD or PhD in Epidemiology or Public Health. Non-medical candidates will require a PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or equivalent research experience.

The candidate will have evidence of a substantial track record of peer review publications and research grants, experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and of supervising PhD students. The post is for 5 years in the first instance subject to 5 years probation (clinical candidates) or 6 months (non-clinical candidates).

We are seeking candidates for the position of Director of EOHSI, a jointly sponsored institute of UMDNJ-RWJMS and Rutgers University, and Chair of DEOM, UMDNJ-RWJMS.

The ideal candidate would assume both positions and must have a PhD or equivalent or MD (New Jersey licensure or eligible). The candidate must have a distinguished record of research and/or clinical service, as well as teaching and be able to lead and collaborate within a highly productive and collegial multidisciplinary environment, develop programs, and raise funds to further EOHSI’s mission. The successful candidate must articulate a clear vision of research, demonstrated mentoring skills and service to government and the public, as well as a commitment to fostering interactions with other academic units.

EOHSI’s mission encompasses basic and clinical research in the environmental health sciences, environmental education and public policy. EOHSI serves as an unbiased source of expertise on environmental problems. The Institute’s four-story, 78,000-square-foot building opened in 1991. It houses an NIEHS Center for Environmental Health Sciences, Environmental and Occupational Health Clinic, an Ozone Research Center, an EPA Environmental Bioinformatics and Computational Toxicology Center, a Computational Chemodynamics Laboratory, a CounterAct Center and a Controlled Environment Facility for stimulating human exposure to pollutants. EOHSI is home to three graduate programs: The Joint Graduate Program in Toxicology, The Joint Doctoral Program in Exposure Assessment, and the Residency Program in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Occupational Cancer Research Centre (OCRC)
DIRECTOR AND SCIENTIST

Location: Toronto, Ontario

A Director is needed to provide leadership in the establishment of an exciting new research enterprise: the Occupational Cancer Research Centre (OCRC). The Director will assemble and motivate an interdisciplinary team to produce high quality research focused on the goal of reducing the incidence, mortality and overall burden of occupation-related cancer in Ontario.

OCRC is the first of its kind in Canada, and was created to bridge the gaps in our knowledge of occupation-related cancers and to translate these findings into preventive programs to control workplace exposures and improve the health of Ontarians. This major new initiative is a unique partnership that unites health, workplace safety, labour and industry groups. It is jointly funded by Cancer Care Ontario, The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division and was developed in collaboration with the United Steelworkers Union.

The Centre Director will be supported by a Steering Committee representing key stakeholders in the occupational health community in Ontario plus a Scientific Advisory Committee. The Centre is housed at Cancer Care Ontario. Dr. Aaron Blair, internationally recognized for his research in occupational cancer, is currently acting as Interim Director awaiting the placement of the permanent Director.

The Centre Director will have an ongoing scientific appointment in the department of Population Studies and Surveillance in Cancer Care Ontario, with the opportunity for an appointment at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto commensurate with appropriate academic standing (i.e., Associate/Full Professor).

The incumbent will:

  • Establish a long-range, high-quality research agenda on occupational cancer
  • Assemble a multi-disciplinary scientific team
  • Work with the Centre's Steering Committee to promote the growth and sustainability of the Centre
  • Build partnerships with other provincial/national/ international researchers and research institutions and with the occupational and cancer stakeholder communities
  • Publish and disseminate research findings in both scientific and lay publications

Qualifi cations will include:

  • A doctorate in epidemiology, biostatistics, occupational health, or other relevant discipline
  • Significant research contributions in the areas of occupational health and/or cancer
  • Demonstrated ability to provide scientific leadership to interdisciplinary research teams
  • Experience working with stakeholders in the occupational arena or equivalent
  • Experience and/or commitment to knowledge transfer and exchange

MRC-HPA Centre for Environment and Health
Applications are invited for 9 Posts at Chair, Reader, Senior Lecturer and Lecturer Level

This major new initiative in Environment and Health is core funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the UK's Health Protection Agency (HPA), and is held jointly between Imperial College London and King's College London. The Centre aims to be an international centre of excellence for research and training on the health effects of environmental pollutants and the translation of this knowledge to inform national and international policies to improve health.

We now seek applications from leading researchers in environmental epidemiology, environmental modelling, biostatistics, toxicology, biomarkers and related disciplines, for nine academic positions based at Imperial College and King's College. Appointments will range from Lecturer to Chair level depending on qualifications, publication record and experience. Both clinical and non-clinical applicants are encouraged to apply. A number of postdoctoral positions and PhD studentships are also available.

The new research programme will include both methods development and investigation of priority questions in environment and health through two integrated research themes: 1) health effects of sources and emissions of environmental contaminants, and 2) air pollution and health. We will integrate individual-level and small-area analyses of environmental exposures and health, combined with experimental data, biomarker and mechanistic studies, and analyses of large population cohorts, to tackle environmental health problems of public health and scientific importance. There will be a focus on new and emerging technologies in areas such as mapping, modelling, toxicology, epigenetics, proteomics and metabonomics. There will also be an extensive training programme with PhD studentships, Masters courses and short courses.

University of Rochester Medical Center
Faculty Position in Neurotoxicology

Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor level in the Department of Environmental Medicine at the University of Rochester. We seek an outstanding individual with a strong commitment to excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching. The Department of Environmental Medicine hosts an NIEHS Environmental Health Sciences Center of Excellence, an EPA Particulate Matter Center, and an NIEHS Toxicology Graduate Training Program (http://www2.envmed.rochester.edu/envmed/index.html). This individual is expected to maintain a vigorous, creative, and independent research program, and to assume specific leadership roles within the NIEHS Center and the Department of Environmental Medicine.

We are especially interested in applicants that apply cutting-edge approaches to fundamental questions in neurotoxicology particularly those examining the relationship between environmental exposures and neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases, although exceptional candidates working in related areas are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join a highly interactive faculty with research interests in neurotoxicology, pulmonary and developmental toxicology, osteotoxicology, immunotoxicology, and the molecular biology of xenobiotic receptors and transporters.
