CHARLIE TRIE SURRENDERS


WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Charlie Trie surrendered to Federal authorities this afternoon at Dulles International Airport.

Trie, 49, was indicted last Wednesday by a federal grand jury on 15 charges, including obstruction of justice and various crimes related to campaign fund raising activities. The indictment was secured by the Campaign Financing Task Force, which is investigating allegations of wrongdoing surrounding the 1996 election cycle.

Under an agreement with the Task Force, Trie surrendered to the Federal Bureau of Investigation at approximately 4:30 P.M. He is being brought directly before Magistrate Judge Theresa Buchanan in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Trie is expected to be ordered to appear for an arraignment before Judge Paul Friedman in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 5, 1998.
