The State Department of Education and the Idaho National Laboratory are pleased to announce the upcoming Idaho Energy Workshop for Teachers. Classroom teachers (K-12) from across the state of Idaho will have a unique opportunity to receive training, information and hands-on activities to teach students about the topic of energy. Participants in the workshop will receive information concerning the science of energy, wind, solar, nuclear, geothermal, fossil fuels, biomass, and energy conservation and consumption.
Thanks to the generous contribution from the Idaho National Laboratory the workshop is free to teachers on a first come, first served basis. Please see the PDF for more information, an agenda, and for registration (PDF 118 KB) Download Adobe Reader. Date: 8/3/2009 to 8/7/2009Location: Paonia, COSource: Solar Energy International.Participants in this workshop will learn to design and install residential wind systems, up to 100kWh/day in capacity. The workshop will cover system sizing, site analysis, installation and safety issues, and hardware specification. Learn about the different commercially available residential wind turbines, how they work, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Students will learn to estimate electrical production of a turbine given the parameters of the site, tower, and turbine. Get hands on experience with wind generators, and designing a wind/PV hybrid system. Please see the Web site for full information. How Does a State Take the Lead in Ocean Wind? Attend a free Webinar hosted by Windustry and the Great Lakes Regional Wind Energy Association on Wind Project Siting in the Great Lakes Region.
Laurie Jodziewicz, with the American Wind Energy Association, will be sharing with us the basic steps and considerations within the development process through the construction of the wind project.
Michael Vickerman is the Executive Director of RENEW Wisconsin, a non-profit that promotes clean energy strategies for powering the state's economy in an environmentally responsible manner. In May 2009, RENEW Wisconsin received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to fund a new project called "Sowing the Seeds for a Bountiful Harvest: Shaping the Rules and Creating the Tools for Wisconsin's Next Generation of Wind Farms." He will share with us his project work and how it can be used as a model to site wind turbines. Date: 8/17/2009Location: Custer, WIPhone: 715-592-6595 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This one-day course is a prequel to Midwest Renewable Energy Association wind systems workshops and for people who have an interest in residential size wind systems for their home or business. This course will inform students as to what wind energy is, how it works and what it can do for you. Topics will include: wind resources, basic system components, system types, turbine types, applications, and tower types. Date: 8/18/2009 to 8/20/2009Location: Custer, WIPhone: 715-592-6595 This workshop will examine the design considerations that go into the manufacture of a wind generator. Components will be studied including their structure, function, materials, how they operate, and reliability to understand what choices various manufacturers have made for their products and why. All of the commercially available residential-sized wind equipment on the market will be considered. This workshop will help wind site assessors, equipment dealers, installers and home owners ferret out the pro's and con's of all the wind generator options in the market place. Date: 8/20/2009 to 8/22/2009Location: Aspen, COAspen Institute campus, Doerr-Hosier building at the Aspen Meadows. The mission of American Renewable Energy DAY (AREDAY) is to promote education and awareness of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies as practical solutions to global warming. Please see the AREDAY Web site for a list of confirmed presenters. Municipal Utility Wind Project Case Studies: WebinarDate: 8/26/2009Location: COPhone: (303) 425-6800 10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. MDT
Examine different approaches to municipal utility wind power projects through three case studies. The studies will look at utility-owned projects, purchase power projects, financing and contractual arrangements, overcoming management and technical barriers, reasons for choosing particular technologies, and more.
